About Lockdex
Lockdex is an unofficial Deadlock stats site: a hero tier list, builds and counters for every hero, item stats and readable patch notes. It is free, has no accounts and is funded by ads.
Where the data comes from
All match statistics, hero and item data and community builds come from deadlock-api.com, a community project that collects public Deadlock match data. Patch notes come from the official Deadlock changelog and Steam news. Hero portraits, item icons and game text belong to Valve.
Every hour a scheduled job fetches the latest numbers, computes everything on this site and saves a snapshot. Pages are built from the newest snapshot. If the data source is down, the previous snapshot stays up and pages show how old it is. The current snapshot was built on October 26, 2026 from 1.6M matches using 139 API requests.
Win rate and pick rate
- Win rate = wins / matches for players on that hero (or players who bought that item).
- Pick rate = the share of matches that include the hero. A match has 12 heroes, so the average hero sits around 27%. For a hero released inside the time window, only days since its release count.
- Item pick rate = the share of players (hero slots) who bought the item.
- Only normal-mode ranked and unranked matches count; bot games, private lobbies and Street Brawl are excluded.
How tiers are assigned
- Each hero's win rate is shrunk toward 50% by adding 500 virtual matches at 50%. With hundreds of thousands of matches this changes almost nothing; with a few hundred it stops a lucky streak from topping the list.
- Heroes with fewer than 300 matches in the selected window and rank get no tier ("not enough data").
- The shrunk win rates are turned into standard scores (how many standard deviations a hero sits above or below the average hero). S is a score of 1 or more, A 0.35 to 1, B -0.35 to 0.35, C -1 to -0.35, D below -1. Because tiers are relative, every rank bracket gets a readable spread.
- S tier guard: a hero also needs at least 2,000 matches and a 4% pick rate for S; otherwise it is capped at A.
Time windows and rank brackets
The tier list can show the current patch (since the latest patch notes), the last 7 days or the last 30 days. Hero pages and item pages use the current patch once it is at least three days old, otherwise the last 7 days.
Rank brackets use the average badge of both teams in a match: Initiate to Acolyte, Sentinel to Mystic, Ritualist to Emissary, Oracle to Phantom, Ascendant and Eternus. Most unranked matches have no average badge, so they appear only under "All ranks".
Builds, ability order and matchups
- Item build by phase: for each item we count when the hero's players buy it (0 to 9 minutes, 9 to 20, 20+). Each item is listed in the phase where most purchases happen, ranked by how many of the hero's players buy it then.
- Core items: the tier 2+ items most of the hero's players buy at any point.
- Ability order: the most common first 12 ability points among players who spent at least 12; "max first" is the order in which those abilities reach their last point.
- Counters and good matchups: the hero's win rate against each enemy hero (anywhere on the enemy team) minus the hero's overall win rate, with at least 500 matches per pair. Synergies use teammates the same way.
- Community builds: the most favorited English builds updated in the last four months, with the build ID to search in game.
Patch winners and losers
For each of the recent patches we compare every hero's win rate in the seven days before the patch (or since the previous patch, if that was sooner) with the days after it, until the next patch. A hero needs at least 1,000 matches on each side, and an item 2,000 purchases, and the change has to be at least two standard errors so random noise doesn't make the list. Heroes and items named in the patch notes are marked.
Hero release dates
Release dates are when a hero first appears in match data at launch volume (5% of its busiest week or day), so test games before launch don't count. Heroes already playable when the public data starts in 2024 are listed as the original roster.
Player count and ranks
Steam's public player-count API doesn't report Deadlock, so the player count estimates how many people are inside a match at an average moment: matches in the last 24 hours times average match length times 12 players. The rank distribution counts players by the rank at the end of their latest ranked match.
Caveats
- Item win rates are biased upward for expensive items: players who are already ahead buy them sooner. Compare items within the same tier or phase.
- Win rate is not skill: one-trick players and party play raise some heroes' numbers.
- Numbers can differ from other sites that use different windows, ranks or game modes.
